Do you have to fast for the Glucose Tolerance Test during your pregnancy? I am 29 weeks and am due for my test, just wanted to know if I had to fast or not. I would call the lab but its Sunday night and they are closed.

Nope you don’t need to fast. You just cannot eat or drink anything for the hour after you drink the stuff and before they draw your blood.
dont eat from 12pm the night before
Yes you have to, I had to eat nothing from 12pm the night before my test.
When I had mine done with my last son they told me not to eat or drink anything after like 3 in the morning and my appt. was at 9. I was so thirsty. As soon as the test was done I went and ate breakfast.

This site states that there is no preparation to be done, but it also says not to eat, drink, or do strenuous excersise 8 hours prior to the first blood test.
I couldnt eat or drink after midnight! SO I was fine seeing as I was in bed my 9 pm every night due to exhaustion…lol.
You’re fine.
Ditto here. I couldn’t eat after midnight before my test. I was STARVING afterwards! Good luck.
You don’t have to fast for the one hour test. If the results for that one come back abnormal, then you will take another test that you must fast for. I wondered the same thing before my glucose test, and called my doctor. They told me to eat whatever I wanted, especially since my appointment was in the afternoon. As the nurse put it, “I wouldn’t want to do that to a pregnant woman!” Good luck!
they told me not to eat or drink anything for a couple hours before my test. i did the one hour test, may be different for the three hour test though. then you have to wait an hour after you drink the stuff so they can draw your blood. then you can get something to eat and drink. its not that bad at all. it just made me tired. lol. also made the baby move LOTS. haha. good luck.
i had my test done last week and i ate all the way up to the time i had my test and then i couldn’t eat or drink for the hour after i drunk the nasty orange stuff after i had my blood drawn everything was back to normal this was done as per my docs instructions
Yes, your suppose to not eat anything after midnight the night before.
Just a tip. Put something is your purse to snack after the test is done (something I plan on doing this time around).
Good luck with the GD test

One son (3 almost 4,yikes), 16 weeks 6 days with #2 (hoping to find out gender on July 17th, will it be Rylee Madison or Daniel Orion)
No you dont have to fast. This test is to see how quickly your body metabolizes the sugar that you drank. Just make sure you drink it one hour before the drawl. Just try not to eat anything sugary before you drink the orange fizzy sugar pop! If the test comes back positive, then the next test you will have to fast for. Good luck!
They used to say you had to fast before, but now they want to see what your body is doing normally, so you need to eat and drink like you normally do throughout the day before your test.
