You should only eat exactly what they tell you to. The results of the test will be based on you following these directions precisely. If you fast it will lower your blood sugar. If they were expecting you to have eaten something (I’m not sure where the eggs/milk come in here) it may cause a false reading from their baselines possibly prompting them to prescribe medications that you don’t need.
Glucose tests are usually done in the morning on an empty stomach, but this may be a different test from what I took when I was pregnant.
I would follow the directions that you were given- eat a good breakfast and then nothing for at least one hour prior to the test- if it is in the afternoon it is okay to eat lunch but make sure it is not within one hour of your appointment.
Normally any glucose test requires fasting, however if it is a HB1Ac test, then the fasting would not be needed, because that reading is based on a three month average of your blood sugar.
Most anything you would eat will have an effect on your blood sugar. The body converts many foods from the original composition into a form of sugar for the body to use. The food does not have to be a sugar, starches such as found in bread or pasta, will convert into sugars. Call your health care provider to be sure just what kind of a test is being done. Gestational diabetes is a common problem during pregnancy
I was told with both of my pregnancies not to eat anything after 12 midnight. only water. You are supposed to drink your “drink” 1 hour before. so schedule your appointment early in the morning so you don’t starve you and the baby to death (not literally).
